BJP Government Implements Ayushman Bharat in Delhi, Proposes ₹10 Lakh Health Cover per Family
The question now is—will Delhiites finally receive free healthcare under this scheme? Will it be provided to all, or will there be some eligibility criteria?

The newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi has announced the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), aiming to provide free healthcare services to eligible residents. This move comes after the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration had opposed the scheme, favoring its own Delhi Arogya Kosh program.
In a significant enhancement, the BJP government has proposed increasing the health insurance coverage under AB-PMJAY from the existing ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per family per year. This proposal aligns with the central government's earlier considerations to expand the scheme's benefits and coverage.
The decision to implement AB-PMJAY in Delhi is expected to integrate the state's healthcare services with the national framework, potentially benefiting a larger segment of the population. However, the transition may involve reviewing and possibly restructuring existing health initiatives, such as the Mohalla Clinics, to align with the new scheme.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the rollout process and understand the eligibility criteria to avail themselves of the enhanced healthcare benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
